A Personal Lesson

I’ve been going through a bit of a Spiritual battle lately. Last night, I spoke on the phone with my pastor at length about the issues, and told him that I just wasn’t sure how to deal with it. Without going into the details, I’d like to share just what Pastor Blankenship said to me that made so much sense that it was brilliant in its simplicity.

He said that I should remember David when he stood against Goliath. He said that David did not know when he arrived at the battlefield that he would be fighting a giant that day. But when David saw what was going on, he knew he had to fight this giant, just as we can’t run from our battles, but we must face them.

Then, David took his motivation and encouragement from past victories. He had slain a lion and a bear, and he knew that God could and would deliver this giant in the same way that He had those. David knew that God owned the victory, and that He would deliver this giant that day.

Next, he explained to me that David was offered Saul’s armor, but refused it because he had not proved it. Saul’s weapons and armor were unfamiliar to David. Instead, David went out with what he knew and was familiar with, his sling and some stones. Pastor Blankenship suggested that I fight with weapons I am familiar with, prayer and the Word.

What a blessing to be included in the promises of God!! I sure did appreciate my time with my pastor last night, and more so, I enjoyed my time with the Lord afterward, trusting in Him to deliver this giant.

In Christ,

Joe
